DIGITAL SIGNAGE // DYNAMIC CONTENT IN 3D SPACE
After making lots of promo & hit movies displayed throughout all Holland Casinos, this series was built to integrate dynamic content within a 3D movie background. Items like txt, images & movies are dynamically loaded to show the right content for the item at hand.. Inventing the concept & making the "behind the scenes" camera rigs to make this happen was quite a challenge. This is the first time this has ever been done, as far as I can tell..
DIGITAL SIGNAGE // ROLLERCOASTER / 3D TV
For the promotion op Private Table, I made this roller coaster setup of a bunch of card decks. Taking a ride on this coaster and flying off the rails, made it possible to show the main messages - in "bullet time".. Why show this movie? Cause it was the only one, which actually made it to a 3D TV - the one without the glasses.
SCHIPHOL INNOVATION DAY
This touchscreen was a demo for the Schiphol Innovation Day. Very well received & complete with the presentation of all the info one gets around an airport, mobile QR codes and Video connections. After making the functional & UI design - by lack of available developers & a tight deadline - I hand coded the whole shebang :}
SAMSUNG EXPERIENCE CORNER
As part of an in store experience corner, along with a photo booth and lots of product presentations, I built this touchscreen to give information about the Samsung ITD product range. The setup was actually so simple, that it worked very well. Easily animated from screen to screen, it almost made it as a large front window touchscreen.. damn budgets. Simplicity is - almost always - key.
INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS // KPN PICK-UP TABLES
Touch the screen, or pick-up a phone for direct information.. Giving customers access to info, ratings, comparison, feature movies etc. With built in help features, advising customers which product fits their needs. One of the cool details was the touch interaction within 3D space, giving extra dynamics to the application.
INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS // SONY RETAIL DISPLAY
You can't always win the game.. Especially when the rules change. Having made multiple versions of the interface, the "blobby" animations for transitions and buttons - which fitted the Walkman logo perfectly - never made it to the final version. Well, still enough items remained..
PROJECTION // HOLLAND CASINO 360 PROJECTION
A setup built out of 4 beamers to project a big object from all sides. The main challenge was to build a spacious projection, while not knowing the spectators point of view.. I made an extensive rig to defy the laws of nature, at least as far as possible. With this setup, which has too many items to even begin writing about, it turned out that my good old math buddy; tan 30, turned out to be one of the key solutions..
PROJECTION // MISS SAIGON OBJECT PROJECTION
Every new assignment, which you haven’t done before, has got some kind of a learning curve. Same here, this being my first 3D projection. Figuring out the technical workflow & only having 3 pictures and 2 logos as footage, it took some overtime to get the job done. By building extra assets like moving curtains & flying helicopters projected from all sides, it actually made it to a nice project(ion)..
HOLOGRAPHICS // SAMSUNG HOLOGRAPHIC LADY
For the Samsung brand store, I made a holographic projection for after hours. Attracting attention to the store, even when it was closed. Animating a somewhat larger than life holographic lady, integrating some general communication, was really fun to work on.
HOLOGRAPHICS // HTC DREAMOC
With this "triangular" box - you can project on, over and around an actual product. Giving e.g. the opportunity to extend the phone screen. Communicating the product features in a surprising way, the holographic look & feel really does its job. Although it has some minor limitations, I enjoy animating in this way.
AUGMENTED REALITY // HTC AR
As a pre-installed mobile application, this AR app was a sales tool for the newly launched HTC mobile phone. Pointing your phone at a marker, revealed animated 3D scenes on the spot. With some simple interactivity built in, a floor salesman could talk about the phone, while showing the new features from all angles.. After having built some pretty complicated 3D text animations, it was less funny getting Turkish & Russian translations - no straight solutions there :}
AUGMENTED REALITY // CTRACK AR GAME
Images shown were part of the concept preview. Along the way items like the markers changed, making it difficult to preview the final result.. But still the way it worked made it a fun game to play (/work on). Controlling your truck with an iPad, avoiding all kind of obstacles, reducing fuel and making it safe to the finish line.. And off course this being an AR app; things that weren’t there were shown and visa versa.
APPS // HTC SPECIALIST
This mobile app was developed as an extension of the HTC specialist site. Giving floor salesmen across and beyond Europe the ability to always be up-to-date with the latest releases, trainings, videos etc. Beside the GUI and look & feel of the app, I built an extensive new icon range..
APPS // YOUR BUTLER
The idea behind the Butler is that the business market can help provide healthcare, giving away free tablets to the less abled and elder people in our society. With the preinstalled app, people with less knowledge of mobile devices can easily get in (video) contact with their loved ones or caretakers. While this app is constantly being developed, I can only say; more to come..
COMMERCIALS // LOVELAND FESTIVAL
The first Loveland commercial I made was completely built in "2.5D" space. Getting the party people to warm up for the festival, I put a lot of work in the animations.. Every animal, tree or background element had some kind of animation in it. I have some good memories on this one.
COMMERCIALS // SAMSUNG SLIDE PHONE
While this being quite an oldie, it was my first serious 3D animation assignment. Making the slide phones dance and interact with each other was a nice way to learn on the job. As I didn't model the phones in those days, I took care of the after FX.. Nice side note; this commercial made it to the Russian movie theatres..

Showing off some of the features & the eco friendliness (read energy cost reduction) of the LED TVs. This being my first Full HD production, it really took a heavy load on my render times.. These days that's all in the game.
PROMO MOVIES // TRY OUT BOX
While this was a short promo playing in the Primera stores in Holland, it contained some pretty complicated items. Like movies integrated in a moving diamond pattern & dynamic falling chips. For the first scene I made a custom rig for the chip so it could naturally roll & bounce across the scene.
CHARACTER DESIGN // HTC AVATAR
I gave this fully configurable cute little Avatar well over 250 assets, making a lot of possible combinations. The previews show some of the personal avatars which can be configured, all based on one main body. I tested thoroughly on the animation part in advance, for e.g. the legs were too short & the arms too long - in comparison to a normal character.. As low poly characters these guys live on the HTC Specialist site, having over 50K+ reincarnations..
CHARACTER DESIGN // STILL TO LAUNCH..
I designed these characters for a still to launch site.. It's got to do something with the Cloud :} After testing and playing with the characters & particle clouds, I reengineered the characters and assets to low poly versions.. Why, because they will be part of the first open WebGL site in it's class.. More to follow..
GAMES // PIXON SHOOTER GAME
As part of a mobile campaign, I designed a simple point&shoot game. Having to find and capture the 2 main characters of the campaign in multiple levels. As I merged lots of photos into different depths of the scenes, it was the perfect chance to make it a 3D anaglyphic game. I figured out a way to make this technically possible within Flash, but budget told us otherwise..

For the introduction of Dance4Life to the world, I helped them out with their first digital presentations. A cool initiative and project to work for. Including some nice 3D turntable transitions between slides, but they just didn't work as a still image. So lets keep this preview in a purple haze..

Taking the trainee along in comprehensive steps to clearly communicate the ins&outs of features and technologies. To check if the messages came across, one always had to take an exam at the end...

Produced over a decade ago, this is a golden oldie. While having made more recent training movies than this, this production brings back strange but good memories. It was the time of having large photo shoots, just to animate the refrigerators, ovens and stuff.

The concept of this site was as simple as effective. Give the artist (without any technical knowledge) the chance to build her own site. By literally building a wooden cabinet. Given some extra wooden boxes, she could make different compositions and test things out before I came to do the photo shoot & animate the products afterwards. A nice detail is that every pixel on screen was equal to 1 mm in the real world.. Yet to convert the Flash site to html5..

Having made Graphical User Interfaces for large portals & heavily data driven sites (which is well beyond my technical scope), I just decided to preview one of the micro sites I made. Just plain & simple, with some nice animations.

Helping EMstudios out with the introduction of their new academy of sound. Building some style elements like icons & backgrounds, flyers & movies. The form and residual form of EM turned out pretty well, automatically making a portrait & landscape version of the logo.

This item turned from a little hobby to a large project. Building custom rigs for the arm-hand/leg-feet setup, with IK following FK and visa versa. Making my own walk/jump cycle rigs with easy variation sliders. Rigs for bouncing, rolling, writing etc.. The ball could even talk. I still have to tie the last knots, so I hope I find some time in the near future. This project has so much more features and potential (which I'm not gonna talk about), so: tbc..

A very extensive setup for a hand. Combining different systems for the glove and the sleeve. The fingers ended up having a combination of 4 setups: B(reaking)K>IK / IK>FK / FK>FF (FreeFingers:).. and it can do more. Don't get it? Never mind, I hope to finish it soon. By the way, the preview just shows the proxy, the high poly version looks way better.
